Helping Clients Move with Confidence

I love helping people move with confidence,  build lasting strength, and reconnect with their bodies through Pilates that’s thoughtful, precise, and deeply personal. Over nearly 20 years of teaching in Manchester Center, with more than 25,000 hours of instruction, working with beginners through the most advanced levels, I’ve learned that strong, resilient bodies aren’t built through intensity alone — they’re built through understanding, patience, and consistent practice.

My approach is rooted in what I feel is “Pilates with a Soul”: movement that honors the whole person — body, mind, and life experience — not just the workout.

A Lifelong Journey in Movement

My journey with movement began at age three, when I started dancing. By age twelve, my training intensified, studying six days a week in New Jersey and at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. I performed, trained, and studied with extraordinary artists from NYC Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and Martha Graham, and even taught ballet to children and adults while still in my teens. These early experiences gave me a deep understanding of body mechanics, movement patterns, and how unique every individual truly is.

Training and Certification

In 1989, I studied Pilates at SUNY Purchase where I received my BFA in Dance.  Later, I trained more extensively with a Romana’s Pilates instructor before becoming fully and comprehensively certified by Power Pilates® in New York City. I continue to study keeping my work grounded in classical principles while evolving with new insight and understanding. My background in dance and decades of Pilates experience allow me to see subtle movement patterns, assess each client’s needs clearly, and guide progress with precision and care.

A Personalized Approach

Every session — whether private or small-group — is designed around you, your body, and your goals. Pilates is more than a workout; it is preventative care that strengthens the body, supports the nervous system, and builds lasting confidence. Even group classes become adaptable once we’ve worked together privately, so every client can progress safely and comfortably.

Memorable Client Moments

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless breakthroughs.  A client who had practiced Pilates for years but had never been able to complete a roll-up without assistance — together, we addressed each roadblock, and soon she achieved it with control and ease.
Another client, unsure she could lift into ‘short spine', discovered she could rise effortlessly using her core, amazed at what her body was capable of.
Most profoundly for most, it’s the far-reaching effects of learning to move with ease — the way it transforms everyday life, posture, confidence, and how we experience our bodies.

Moments like these remind me that the true power of Pilates lies in discovering what your body is capable of when guided with precision, care and encouragement.

My Philosophy

My goal is to create a calm, focused, and welcoming environment where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. I strive to offer a space free from hype, pressure, and trends — where learning, safety, and personal growth come first.  I help clients move safely, prevent injury, build resilience, and develop a lifelong relationship with their bodies — so they can continue doing what they love, feeling strong and capable at every stage of life.

CHARLOTTE JACOBSON

Guest Instructor

I’ve been part of The Pilates Loft community since 2008, and teaching here is something I truly love. I trained under Erika’s guidance for 17 years, developing a strong foundation through dedicated personal practice and ongoing study. Through this process, I became certified through Power Pilates® and continue to deepen my understanding of the method.

My approach to teaching is rooted in integrity, clarity, and care. I believe in understanding every exercise and piece of apparatus in depth — not just how it looks, but what it is meant to accomplish and how it supports the body as a whole. I love helping clients understand what they are working toward in each session, so they feel confident, informed, and connected to their practice.

Clients often describe my teaching style as both tough and kind. I enjoy challenging people to grow while always making sure they feel safe, supported, and encouraged. My goal is to guide each person thoughtfully, helping them build strength, control, and body awareness with confidence.

Outside of the studio, I enjoy an active and grounded life in Vermont. I love skiing, hiking, spending time with animals, gardening, and cooking. My family has been part of this community since 1981, and that deep connection continues to shape who I am and how I show up for my clients.

I bring my passion, experience, and warmth to every session, and I’m honored to help clients connect with both the physical and mental benefits of Pilates in a supportive environment
